The University of North Georgia nearly doubled instructional space at its Gainesville campus with this $37.5 million, 134,000-sf facility, which features classrooms, instructional labs, a computer center, student lounges, faculty offices, and a large multipurpose room.
The five-story building has two wings that converge in a “T”-shaped footprint. An atrium lobby connects the two wings and features walkways at each of the five levels, and an expansion joint at one end of the lobby. Due to the site’s challenging topography, the lower two levels of each wing are partially below grade and require full-height basement walls on the southern edge.
The Gainesville/Oakwood campus of UNG was established as Gainesville State College in 1964 and merged with North Georgia College and State University in 2013 to form the University of North Georgia.
